GIRLS IN SPORT MENTORING PROGRAMME
The Champion Coaching girls in sport programme is designed by Republic of Ireland & Shamrock Rovers footballer Stephanie Roche and her team of FAI/UEFA qualified coaches. Our goal is to help tackle the huge drop out rate of girls from sports in their teenage years. We also aim to encourage girls to lead a healthier and more active lifestyle.
The programme is aimed at transition year students to take part in a year long mentoring and activity programme with Stephanie and the team of coaches and sports people. The programme can be catered and adapted in many ways including length of the programme and frequency. We would recommend a minimum of one session per week throughout the year to achieve the best results and help us monitor the progress of the girls during that period.
We aim to achieve our goals through several elements of the programme.
-
Football coaching
-
Introduction to fitness training and gym work
-
Nutrition advice
-
Mentoring of girls interested in careers in sport at any level including playing and coaching.
-
Classroom debates and workshops on why girls drop out of sports and don’t participate into their late teens and adult years.
We understand fully not everyone will want to pursue football as their sport of choice. For us we use football as an example, but it can be applied to all other sports. The end goal of the programme is to have a healthier and more active group with a passion and interest in sport at any level. We use football as our sport but don’t expect everyone to follow this path. That’s why we have included other fitness benefits and coaching to empower the girls with their own activity journey. We feel it’s more inclusive for the programme to cater to all different types of sporting preference.
Our coaches are qualified professional players and coaches with years of experience in coaching and playing the game at every level. They all hold FAI/UEFA issued qualifications and Garda vetting. Our programme is also fully insured.
